ITALIAN SISTERS, 8/92, 40" x 40"
I did a drawing of a well-known Italian painting of a woman's head. Then I did another drawing of the same head. Eventually I had six of them. I'm such a middling draughtsman that each drawing looked like a different woman. But, yes, they looked somewhat alike. So I decided they were six sisters. I used an opaque projector to protect the drawings onto the canvas, drew them in, then painted them. Then I projected another completely unrelated drawing I'd done of a bull into the upper right corner. The bull is the masculine element in the family, perhaps the father. He has one eye and so does the face nearest him.
