TWO FLOWERS, 6/94, 40" x 40"
A painting done in about two hours. I did the flowerpot first. It is imperfect. Then I did the flowers. The stems are imperfect but suddenly come the flowers and they are perfect. The transparent petals overlap, creating everything from pink-white in the right flower to dark red in the left flower. A lot of overlapping transparent petals create opacity. I don't even like to think of how I painted these flower petals for fear that I could not do it again if asked. Anne argued strongly against the brown flowerpot color showing "through" the lower part of the right flower's leaves. But I feel this "imperfection" exactly balances the "perfection" of the flowerheads.
